Leos U10's win District Plate Competition
Posted Wednesday, April 16, 2008 by juliecurran | On a very wet and rather chilly Sunday the entire Leos U10's squad turned out at Aireborough RUFC for the central district plate competition. Not all phased by the failure of their first opponents to appear they played their hosts in an extended game and ran out the worthy winners 35:15. They then faced a long and damp wait for the other pool to finish their matches. It did however give the boys the chance to view the quality of the other teams as an epic struggle took place between Morley and Otley, Morley progressing to the final on try difference from their other matches.
The organisers wisely took the decision to move the pitches for the final, which started with Leos going in for an early try, swiftly followed by a reply from Morley. This pattern repeated itself until at half-time the teams were level at 15:15, the final of those tries being a lovely snatched ball and fly over by Douglas.
After the break Leos were faced with playing up the hill, but this proved to be little problem as a determined Abhijeet repeatedly made ground, and then great passing by the whole team allowed the flying Harry to score another 2 tries to add to his one before half time.
The final whistle went, with the score at 30:15 to a delighted Leos team.
All the boys played exceptionally well, with true grit, and great ball handling and tackling in poor conditions.
Many thanks to Steve Guant and his team at Aireborough for organising such a well run competition, and not being deterred by the weather.
