The Great DIY Crag Makeover Posted Sunday, June 21 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
The DIY paint party held at the Clubhouse yesterday was a huge success, with a staggering 37 volunteers present.
The painting of all 4 changing rooms and corridor was completed under the direction of Lovejoy in 45 minutes, and subsequent tasks tackled included drain cleaning and the removal of dead wood, a process which will continue over the coming weeks.
Exhausted volunteers then retired to the bar to watch the Lions narrow defeat and enjoy their complementary beers and excellent curry provided by our estimable Steward, Tony Firth.
Many thanks to all those who turned up. All 4 teams plus the Junior Section were well and evenly represented. This event was a major step forward in involving players in the maintenance and running of the Club, something we have not done for several years.

The Great Paint Party Posted Tuesday, June 9 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
Numbers are looking good for the work party party a week on Saturday (20th), with over 25 confirmed volunteers. If we get a few more we may well be able to do the corridor as well, plus it will make the Club a great place to watch the Lions, so text me now to sign up. Work begins around Noon, details will be texted to all confirmed volunteers next week. How often will you get to see Duncan Read and Peter Chapman grafting shoulder to shoulder as fellow horny-handed sons of toil? Don't miss out on the chance of seeing Uppingham's Finest being upbraided by Lovejoy for not cleaning his brush properly.
Never mind the Sistine Chapel, if we get Jim to do the toilets, we'll have our own Cistern Capel.("Thangyouverymuch, I'm here all week, Take My Wife" etc..).

Your Club Needs You!!!! Posted Friday, May 29 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
We are having a Work Party, which will incorporate both "work" and a "party", at the Club on Saturday 20th June, the day of the First Test against the Springboks.
As this is the first time in several years we have asked you to do anything yourselves, we are going to break you in gently! The plan is to meet at the club around 12.00, wherupon you will be provided with rollers, paint and direction from our consultant decorator, Lovejoy. The aim is to paint the changing rooms in a "DIY Makeover" type affair. If we get the numbers there, we should be finished well in advance of the Big Match kick of at 2.00.
We will then retire to the bar to watch the game, where the club will provide your beer for the afternoon (subject to effort/attainment!!) plus some free food, possibly a bbq if weather permits. Those interested in making a night of it can carry on as they see fit, I dare say Howler will have the Big Cards out.
I already have several volunteers from my text sent this week. It would be great to see ALL teams represented by at least 5 players so come on boys, text me or your skipper to sign up. DON'T LEAVE IT TO OTHERS - IF YOU'RE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION, YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
In other news, we now have the 1st XV fixtures through. The first 11 weekends of the season are ALL league fixtures, beginning as follows;
Sept 5th Doncaster Phoenix (home) Sept 12th Goole (away) Sept 19th Hessle (home) Sept 26th Hullensians (away) Oct 3rd West Leeds (home) Oct 10th Ripon (away) Oct 17th Moortown (home) Oct 24th Pocklington (away)
That's all for now, folks.

Summer News Posted Tuesday, May 19 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
Following closure for refurbishment, the website is back up and running, thanks Cadgey.
The Players Presentation Night was a storm, the 3rds winning the Barber Bowl but the 4ths atoning by picking up the team of the year award. Congrats also to 1st XV Skipper Nick Burdon on winning the Presidents Cup, our equivalent of a lifetime achievement award.
The close season is now here, but there is no need to completely abandon the Crag through the summer months. Skippers/I will be in touch over the next few weeks with regard to a "work party for free beer" deal, possibly coinciding with one of the Lions tests. A sunny Saturday at the club, an hour painting a changing room, back in the bar to watch the Lions trounce the Yarpies with your hard earned free beers to hand, retire to the terrace perhaps, with a Mint Juleep, some dinner, some dancing, who knows where it might all end?
Finally for now, we have received the League structure for next year, which features some startling changes. The move of Yorks 1, Yorks 2 and above to 14 team leagues, coupled with some geographical migration, has meant that no fewer than 4 teams have been promoted from Yorks 2 to Yorks 1 and our congratulations go to Dinnington, Wheatley Hills, Castleford and Yarnbury. In addition, 7 teams have come up to Yorks 2!!! Our Division next term will therefore comprise;
Leos North Ribblesdale Barnsley Ripon Knottingley Huddersfield YMCA Pocklington West Park Bramhope/Leeds West Leeds Hessle Goole Moortown Hullensians Doncaster Phoenix
Pre-season starts 1st week of July.
Cheers

Weekly News Posted Sunday, April 19 2009 by Gabes | Never in doubt.
As described below, the 1sts overcame a first half display of nerves and white line fever to settle and record a thoroughly deserved win over Pock. The afternoon also featured an appearance of John Howells and Dave Robinson on a tandem, presumably constructed of some miracle space-age material, disappearing into the woods like a pair of circus bears. Congratulations to Burdy, Si Worrall and all the boys on staying top of the bottom third.
The 2nds/3rds combined to beat a thirsty touring side from Sunderland. The tourists seemed to revel in the balmy spring weather with a corresponding removal of clothing and close interest in the cricket at Alwoodley CC. The subsequent dislodging of bails led to an appeal which was, thankfully, declined.
The 4ths subsided to a defeat at higher-placed Keighley. Even Kinga the Winga proved unable to help. Report available shortly.
The recent Dinner saw a record attendance from the players, and a bravura performance from speaker David Taylor. Events continued into the early hours with only 2 "no shows", (Dan Marland and Simon Howarth - Shame on you!).
This coming week we are aiming to put out 3 teams in an end-of-term, "come in your own clothes, bring games" affair.
The last event of the season is the Dekker Hall/Barber Bowl/3rds v 4ths/Presidents v Chairmans/ Player of the Year/Team of the Year/Captains' Speeches/Mystery Musical Item event which will be held at the Club on Friday 1st May. Be there or be square.

Leos secure vital victory Posted Saturday, April 18 2009 by shield1977 | Leos responed when it mattered most with a tremendous win at crag lane this afternoon against Pocklington by 10-3,thus securing our league 2 status for next season.
In front of the largest home attendance this season, Leos were made to work hard against a strong Pocklington side who absorbed alot of Leos pressure to turn round at half time with a 3-0 lead through a penalty from fly half Mitchell.
Coach simon worralls team talk at half time was direct and Leos responded magnificantly.Tries by Lenny Lane on 65 minutes and Myerscough on 70 minutes gave the Leos a well earned victory in what was a great overall team display.

Leos face crunch relegation fixture Posted Sunday, April 5 2009 by shield1977 | Leos face a must win final league fixture at crag lane against pocklington on saturday 18th april to remain in Division 2 next season.
Following yesterdays away defeat at Yarnbury by 26-12 and Ripon's defeat against North Ribblesdale,the second relegation place is between Ripon and ourselves.
The reality is that by beating Pocklington we stay up and therefore we still have our destiny in our own hands.Ripons final fixture the week later on saturday 25th April is away to bottom club Huddersfield ymca,so they will clearly be confident of winning that game.
So for all Leos supporters make sure you put this fixture into your diaries now, as the team needs the entire clubs support for this must win game.
Yesterdays fixture against Yarnbury was a disappointing result and was ultimately won by Yarnbury who utilised the elements and strong wind to there advantage in the second half after leos led 7-6 at half time.There was little to chose between the sides with Leos scoring two well worked tried from Lenny Lane and Stuart Baker against three tries by the hosts.
League table with one game remaining are: Wheatley Hills 35 Castleford 27 Dinnington 27 Yarnbury 19 Pocklington 16 Moortown 16 North Ribb 16 Knottingley 14 Leos 13 Ripon 12 Hudd ymca 7 (Knottingley have a far better points differential than both Leos and Ripon)

Weekly News Posted Monday, March 30 2009 by Gabes | Gents'
Following the glamour of various tours, our teams returned to more prosaic matters at the weekend. Wins proved to be at a premium, the 1sts battling well against Champs Wheatley Hills before subsiding as per report. The 2nds too went down to Skipton 2nds, but ran them close. The 4ths went down gamely to a gnarled Harrogate Vets side, in a game featuring another try for Kinga the Winga.
This week, we all play Yarnbury, 1s and 3s away, 2s and 4s at home.
The Club Dinner (Thurs 9th April)is filling up nicely, with players from all teams committing themselves to a pre-easter knees up (I'm sure it's what He would have wanted).
The Decker Hall/Barber Bowl/Players Presentation evening (Captains speeches, Players of the Year etc.) is on Friday 1st May at the Club. We will be running 2 games and an evening of high octane entertainment.

Leos 3 Wheatley Hills 29 Posted Saturday, March 28 2009 by shield1977 | Leos dominated possession and territory for the opening half hour and trailed the league leaders by a slender 3-8 at half time.Wheatley Hills showed why they are worthy division 2 champions in the second half, by raising their game and were eventual worthy winners against a spirited Leos team by 3-29.
Leos have 2 remaining league fixtures away against yarnbury next saturday,with the final league fixture at home to pocklington on april 18th.The league table following todays results are a follows:
Wheatley Hills 33 points Castleford 25 Dinnington 25 Yarnbury 17 Pockington 16 Moortown 16 Knottingley 14 North Ribb 14 Leos 13 Ripon 12 Hudd ymca 7

Leos v Wheatley Hills Posted Friday, March 27 2009 by shield1977 | Fresh from our easter tours to South Wales and Scotland, Leos take on champions elect Wheatley Hills at crag lane on saturday. Results last week meant that Wheatley Hills will be yorkshire division 2 champions and Leos offer our congratualtions on this achievement. At the other end of the table the division has never been tighter.Huddersfield YMCA are relegated but with wins last week for moortown and north ribblesdale there are potentially 6 clubs including ourselves in danger of the second relegation spot.
Kick off at crag lane is 3.00pm and all support is needed to cheer on the team.
Current league table with 3 games left are as follows:
Wheatley hills 31 points Castleford 23 Dinnington 23 Yarnbury 17 Pockington 16 Knottingley 14 Moortown 14 North Ribb 14 Leos 13 Ripon 12 Hudd ymca 5

The Leos Empire Posted Thursday, March 19 2009 by Gabes | Gentlemen,
This week, we are spreading the Leos message to all corners of the Albion, provided the Albion is, in fact, a triangle.
We have a touring team in Bedwas, South Wales. We have a touring team in Edinburgh, Scotchland. We have a hybrid team defending the Crag against West Leeds.
Like the British Empire, the sun never sets on Leos Rugby.
Plus Cadgey is skiing in France.

Ripon 25 Leos 10 Posted Saturday, March 14 2009 by shield1977 | Despite two well taken tries by Mark Knibbs Leos lost this afternoon to Ripon at Mallorie Park by 25-10. Playing against a very strong wind in the first half Leos were "slow out of the blocks" and turned round at half time trailing by 13-5.Ripon won the try count by 3-2 and on the balance of play deserved this league win.
Results from todays other league games has meant that the division 2 is the most competitive it has been for many years with only six points currently seperating 8 teams.The table can be viewed by clicking on the link above.

Weekly News Posted Monday, March 9 2009 by Gabes | Gentlemen,
This weekend, the last game for many before Tour, our forces will be arrayed as follows;
1st XV away at Ripon 2nd XV home to Ripon 3rd XV home to Castleford 4th XV away to Ripon 3
The weekend just gone saw our club experience the whole gamut of sporting fortune.
The 1st XV put the horrors of Moortown behind them by stuffing North Rib 24-23. You can read Geoffs match report as above but suffice to say that the new shirts probably just tipped the balance in our favour. The massive new shorts were, however, a severe disappointment. When Ed Connell requires a mere "L" instead of a size with more Xs than Joan Collins, you know there has been some kind of error. Rumours that Tom Bindloss had been involved in the ordering of the shorts are being investigated. Messrs Bardon, Lynch, Lane and Freer were even sufficiently cock-a-hoop to cough up their RFU Draw money.
On the back pitch, the 2nds overcame Rib, playing some excellent stuff in patches. Gareth Chesters put in a gargantuan display and was a constant menace with ball and opposition in hand. The side even coped with the presence of the administratively-challenged Tom Bindloss, whose line-out shout of "big yellow blancmange" did not go unheeded by the referee. Tom managed to arrive in his appointed position on the back pitch at kick-off time without mishap.
The 3rds went down bravely to Old Grovians, an excellent effort against a side playing League Rugby most weeks. Skipper Jim Capel, his new-found-power-crazed delusion writing cheques that his body simply cannot cash, yielded to a delegation of senior pros expressing "concern" regarding his intention to play in the centre. Wiser counsels prevailed, Jim returned to the fetid world of the forwards, and a thoroughly commendable team performance followed.
The 4th gained a hard-won victory over Mods 3rds, a triumph, apparently, of age and guile against callow youth. The game was notable for a maiden try for Big Steve, galloping in from half way with a couple of sidesteps. There was also a redoubtable display from Phil Thompson, the seasoned prop who openly admits, and I swear I am not making this up, that he won't wear a scrum cap because he prefers to feel the pain.
A reminder that the Players Dinner is in 4 weeks time on Thursday 9th April, the Thursday before Good Friday. All players, spectators, VPs and guests are welcome.

Leos deserved the victory but it couldn't have been any closer!!

Fine forward, developing referee, shit Tarzan Posted Monday, March 2 2009 by scotty | Those of you who know Mark Fozzard (Foz, obviously) may like to know that on Sunday morning he fell 25ft from a tree! He claims he had scaffolding and everything but was last seen by the lovely Kim disappearing into next doors garden, vertically and at high speed. He is now in Ward 22 of the LGI, laid up with 2 cracked vertebrae. If anyone wants to visit, point and laugh, (he can't chase you after all) feel free! Alternatively good wishes texts are welcome if you have his number, which I'm not publishing on this forum. He should be out in a week, in a cast, for more amusement, but unlikely to pick up the whistle again any time soon.

Weekly News Posted Tuesday, February 24 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
This Saturday, we are required as follows;
1st XV Away to Thornensians (Si's old club!!) 2nd XV Away to Bradford Salem 3rd XV Home to either Burley 2nds or Bradford Salem 3rds 4th XV Home to " " " " " "
Last week saw the 1st XV soundly trousered by our Moortown neighbours. It is probably best to simply draw a veil over this, hopefully aberative, performance.
The 2nd XV fared better, holding Moortown to a 15 all draw under the leadership of James Debenham. There were notable performances from Dan Marland and Neil Mitchell.
The 3rd XV lost out to a hardened Roundhegians Vets team. However the silver lining to this cloud was the return of ex-skipper Peter "Lovejoy" Chapman from his self-imposed exile. Now if we can only track down Lord Lucan, Shergar and Stuey Norton, our cup will verily runneth over.
The 4ths salvaged the reputation of the club by triumphing away at Garforth 2nds. The win featured a stellar performance from centres Pearl & Dean, presumably based on the accuracy of their "Papapapapapapapapa...ssing", and a Lazarus-like ressurection of Kinga the Winga, who recovered from a "broken" elbow to score a try. Kenya believe it?

Club Dinner Posted Tuesday, February 17 2009 by Gabes | Please put this date in your diary.
The annual Club Dinner will be held at the Club on Thursday 9th April. All players, VP's supporters are invited and welcome.
The event will follow the successful "stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap" format developed by Johnny "Howler" Howells over the last few years. The cost will be a mere £20 and speakers will include at least one of Bill Clinton, Boris Johnson or a barrister mate of Smithy's who is meant to be very good.
The event takes place on the Thursday before Good Friday, so beer can be taken with impunity.
Howler and myself will be chasing you for committment to this event in due course.

Weekly News Posted Tuesday, February 17 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
In a slight change to your programme, our committments this week are;
1sts away to Moortown 2nds home to Moortown 3rds/4ths TBC Roundhegians at home/Garforth away.
The 1st XV game at Moortown is a vital game for both teams. A win for Birdys' men will see us 5 points clear of our neighbours, a defeat puts them within a point. Nearly all support is therefore encouraged.
RFU Grand Draw tickets need to be with me by Saturday.

Weekly Club News Posted Wednesday, February 3 2010 by Gabes | Gents,
Our engagements this week are to be confirmed. 3rds are away at Harrogate. The rest will follow shortly.
At the weekend the 1st XV continued their recent string of strong performances with a draw against Classy Cas. The 2nd XV too shared the honours 14-14 with Classy Cas 2nds (2nd Class Cas?) under the inspired leadership of Tom Bindloss. Tom is also tour manager and is keen to remind people that our trip to darkest South Wales is now mere weeks away so start hoarding goody points and prepare for carnage.
The 3rd XV fielded their strongest team for several weeks, Jim Capel now getting a solid grip on things having been dropped in at the deep end by the Lord Lucan like disappearance of his predecessor. A side featuring the welcome return to action of Rupert "Bear" Valery Pearson proved way too strong for Aireborough 2nds, running out 38-10 victors in the Somme-like mud of the back pitch.
The 4ths also returned to form with a win away at Selby 5ths, a team featuring ex-England player Ray Adamson. The star of the show was undoubtedly Kinga the Winga who not only crossed the whitewash and had a narrow miss with the barmaid at the Chequers in Ledsham, but on his return to the clubhouse also sold RFU Grand Draw tickets to Director of Rugby Si Worrall and to the Chairman/Grand Draw Administrator. An example to us all.
The cultural evening after Saturdays' games, held under the balefull glare of John Howells, proved to be a Bacchanalian affair reminiscent of Caligula. All teams were well represented as players formed a drinking circle of 25 much in the way that the Western Pioneers circled their wagons in the face of a Sioux onslaught. In fact, there was a frankly disturbing exhibition of pole dancing from our own "Boy named Sue" Stu Baker, whose codpiece-laden, short-skirted cabaret turn caused many heads, and indeed stomachs, to turn. Events then moved into the back bar where prop Ross Litherland joined a long line of Spoons initiates with a strong performance proving he had no feeling from his neck upwards.
The weather this week means that Saturdays events remain unclear, but come what may, there will be a gathering to watch the Internationals on the newly purchased big screen.
Details of the Players Dinner follow shortly.
There is also a night of live music at the Club on Friday 20th Feb, organised by 3rd XV number 8 and Rock God Stevo. The do is a fund raiser for the Ladies section and all are welcome.

Leos 13 Castleford 13 Posted Saturday, January 31 2009 by shield1977 | Honours were shared this afternoon at crag lane in a hard fought uncompromising game, played in a competitive clean spirit between two well matched sides.Castleford were the best team Leos have played this season, with there reputation endorsed for having the strongest pack in the division.Leos have come a tremendously long way over the past few months and were full value for once more producing a great team performance
Leos held a 13-8 half time lead through two penalties and a converstion from Wynter and a superb try from Maudsley against a well worked try by Watson and a penalty by the same player.
In the second half the only score of the game was a try from Willett after strong pressure from the Castleford pack.
Coach Simon Worrall was rightly proud of the Leos team in what was another fully commited display.FULL MATCH REPORT CAN BE VIEWED BY CLICKING ON THE LINK ABOVE

Weekly Club News Posted Monday, January 26 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
This week our engagements are;
1st XV Castleford (h) League 2nd XV Castleford (a) Merit 3rd XV Aireborough 2nds (h) 4th XV TBA (But not West Leeds 2nds, that's for sure!)
There is also a Club night out this weekend, under the auspices of John Howells. All players from all teams are encouraged and are welcome to attend what is bound to be a night of high culture featuring at least one of the following elements; A talk by Peter Ustinov on his life in show business; A Q&A discussion on "The Credit Crunch, The Way Forward"; A load of beer at the club followed by a taxi-raft transfer to the 3 Shoes in Headingley.
It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the men from Crag Lane. The 1st XV were, apparently, robbed of a deserved victory at Dinnington in controversial circumstances. You can view the entirely impartial match report by following the link above, but suffice to say that spectators at the game were united in a feeling of injustice. Performances continue to improve, however, and a home game against the good citizens of Cas Vegas this week gives Burdy's men an opportunity to garner further valuable league points.
The 2nd XV glided to a merit win over Dinnington in a game marred only by an unseemly onfield spat between James "Chainsaw" Debenham and his friend of several years Tom "The Power" Bindloss. The level of animosity in the exchange is, however, unlikely to give them a billing on the undercard of the next Joe Calzaghe fight. Grasser was heard to complain that his job was hard enough without having to clear the pitch of toys thrown from prams.
The 3rd XV came unstuck against a "social" side from West Leeds, in a game played on the challenging alpine pitch in the woods. The level of sociability of this team was questioned as early as the 2nd minute, when they elected to kick a penalty rather than enter into the Corinthian spirit envisaged. Jims' boys struggled and competed worthily against a side containing several capable 1st XV level players from the Midlands before subsiding to a 25-0 defeat in a competitive game played in great spirit. The affable nature of our guests was finally revealed in the Clubhouse after the game, and concluded with their birthday boy skipper completing a yard of ale at a glacial rate.
The 4th XV travelled in hope to Aireborough, but endured a narrow reverse despite the best efforts of Tim "The Cat" Leslie. Tim acquired his nickname not by exhibiting any particular elusive or gymnastic ability, but rather by picking up the habit of peeing in neighbouring gardens on his way home. The game also featured the return of veteran Polish plumber Tony Mentlak to action. Rumours of this mystery Eastern European magnate returning to fund a Leos climb into the Premiership have, unfortunately, been dismissed, again.

Dinnington 18 Leos 15 Posted Sunday, January 25 2009 by shield1977 | The score board shows Dinnington won and gained the 2 league points.The reality of the game is that Leos were by far the better side,dominating both territory and possession.Leos held a 15-3 half time lead, having scored 3 well worked tries and the transformation of the team under the superb leadership of coach Simon Worrall from earlier in the season was apparent to all Dinnington and neutral supporters. The second half was a more even contest but the facts are that for 88 minutes of the game Leos were by along way the better team.In what can only be described as sheer amazement, the referee awarded the hosts a penalty try in the eighth minute of injury time to the total bemusement of everyone. Full match report can be viewed by clicking on the link above

Weekly Club News Posted Friday, January 23 2009 by Gabes | Gents,
Our engagements this week are;
1sts Dinnington (A) League 2nds Dinnington (H) Merit 3rds West Leeds (H) Friendly against a "social" side (some lads stag/birthday) 4ths Aireborough(A) Their Vets/3rds
Last Saturday saw the 1st XV triumph against Hudds YM (Report link above). This win augments our recent climb up the league and puts us exactly mid-table. Hopefully Burdys' boys can continue their push for a UEFA/Champions League spot with a result against 3rd-placed Dinnington this week.
The 2nd XV had to endure a narrow 3 point loss to an extremely capable West Park side in a game remarkable for the fact that Tom Tweddle actually slotted a conversion, belying his cows arse/banjo reputation.
The 3rd XV, travelling a little light on staff, lost out to an unbeaten West Park 3rd XV. New skipper Jim Capel is already doing a sterling job getting a side out, but could do with a little support as he learns to develop Machiavellian midweek skills. To this end, James Debenham will be helping him out over the next couple of weeks in an Obi Wan/Luke Skywalker type role.
The 4th XV put in a fine performance against Roundhegians, dramatically reducing the margin of defeat suffered earlier in the year. A "big up" (as I believe is the modern argot) to both skipper JP Ashton and his able stand in Billy "Grizzly" Adams for continuing to make us one of the few clubs still putting 4 (occasionally 5) teams on the field.
Many of you will now have been collared by me to sell RFU Grand Draw tickets. This is an increasingly important source of revenue for us as we get to keep 90% of the ticket value. More follows over the next few weeks on the finance side generally, but thanks to all those who have taken them so far. If you need some, or indeed some more, please email me (alungabriel@hotmail.com) and I will furnish you with some. Ticket stubs need to be back to me by Saturday 21st February, so sell,sell,sell!
A particular thank-you goes to Richard Scott (4th XV stalwart), Martin Macker (2nd XV hooker, occasional 1st XV bench-warmer) and Ed Connell (1st XV front row colossus) for being the first to return their money and tickets.

Knottingley 15 Leos 0 Posted Sunday, December 21 2008 by shield1977 | This was another close league game where the result was in doubt until the final 5 minutes.Knottingley had held a slender 3-0 lead at half time and this continued right up to the 75 minute when 2 tries late on, the final with the last passage of play, gave the hosts a rather flattering final score line. Leos contributed well, but Knottingley just about deserved there victory, through having more overall possession throughout the game. Full match report can be read by clicking on the link above.

Leeds Grammar School,u -15's Posted Saturday, December 13 2008 by shield1977 | It is pleasing to note that LGS u -15's,many of whom,who also play for Leos u -15's,have reached the northern final,of the prestigeous Daily Mail Schools Rugby Competition.After a first round bye,they have beaten The King's School,Pontefract 0 - 52,Bradford Grammar School 14 - 14(away side through),Roundhay School 0 - 41,Harrogate Grammar School 12 - 12(away side through) and this week,Royal Grammar School,Newcastle 39 - 0.In the northern final,they will meet the winners of Hymers College and St.Ambrose College,before hopefully progressing to the National Quarter Finals. Wheatley Hills 22 Leos 5 Posted Saturday, November 29 2008 by shield1977 | Depite a spirited display against league leaders Wheatley Hills this afternoon,Leos were not able to enhance their recent run of results and went down by 22-5.
In an entertaining game Wheatley Hills won the try count by 2-1 through tries by Plevey and Starbuck against a good try by Matt Frear, but ultimately the difference was the boot of Wheatley Hills number 10 Dave Storey their player coach who has joined them this season from Doncaster, who kicked 4 penalties.
Leos can take pride in this result, as the team spirit and committment was there for all to see,readily acknowledged by an appreciative home crowd.

North Ribblesdale 10 v Leos 7 Posted Saturday, November 8 2008 by shield1977 | Leos were extremely unlucky to come away from todays league encounter at Settle without the 2 points.
This was Leos best away performance by along way this season and were more than a match for the home side who rarely lose out on home territory.
The game was played in a competitive spirit between two well matched sides and the Leos pack more than held there own against a side whose forwards have gained a strong reputation over the past few years.Fly Half Winter scores a superb solely effort when he skated through the Ribb defence to run 40 metres and score, where he also added the converstion to make the score 7-7 at half time.The only score in the second half was a penalty to Ribb and whilst Leos were able to dominate possession that final elusive score eluded them.
Leos are on the up and this excellent performance will give them a good platform for the forthcoming league fixtures.

Fixtures 2008/2009 Posted Monday, May 26 2008 by shield1977 | The somewhat unusual and complex fixture scenario for Yorkshire Division 2,has finally been resolved.The main complication,was that Redcar,who were moved into Yorks Div 1,for a season,finished in bottom place,but have opted to return to the Northumberland/Durham leagues,rather than remain in Yorkshire.In effect therefore,only one side,Huddersfield YMCA,could be relegated into Yorks 2.No other side from Northumberland/Durham were prepared to undertake the extra travel,so it has been decided that next season,Yorks Division 2,will comprise of 11 teams. Old Brods and Skipton were of course promoted,whilst West Park Leeds and Goole were relegated.So next season,the eight remaining sides,Leo's,Pocklington,Yarnbury,Wheatley Hills,North Ribblesdale,Ripon,Knottingley and Dinnington,will be joined by Huddersfield YMCA,relegated from Yorks 2.The two promoted teams from Yorks 3,are Castleford and Moortown.Leo's start their league season on sat. 13 Sept,with an away fixture at Pocklington. In late season fixtures,Hartbury College (effectively Gloucester Academy),beat Wheatley Hills at Twickenham by 83 - 5,in the Senior Vase,whilst in the all Yorkshire Junior Vase Final,Castleford beat Doncaster Phoenix 14 - 11.Sandal beat Old Brods 22 - 5 in the Yorkshire Shield final,whilst in a Play Off game,Ilkley beat Northern 28 - 24,to secure promotion from Yorks 1,to the North East league,with York being relegated from the North East,to Yorks 1.With Sandal promoted as Champions of Yorks 1,Glossop,from the MIdlands League have requested a transfer into Yorkshire and so will make up the twelth team in Yorks 1. Further news on pre season training and pre season friendley fixtures will follow shortly.
