Leos 3 abject in heavy defeat.
The poorest performance in your scribes 3rd team experience was witnessed against a well organised Yarnbury team last sat.
Leos arrived with 12 players. Lovers was ill and only playing due to a desperate shortage. A combination of text messages only arriving on Thurs lunchtime, poor communication in the week and general Leos apathy handicapped the 3s from the outset.
Several people got on phones, James Martin kindly came and played his 2nd game of the day, Rich Helmsley turned up as did the head of the junior section.
Yarnbury slightly reluctantly gave us a few players until these reinforcements arrived. However they were far better and more up for it from the off. They scored several tries through simple but effective rugby. Leos couldn’t be bothered to tackle. This was the pattern of the game and Leos were soon 25 points down and looking poor, disinterested and generally rubbish.
There were a few exceptions Cranfield showed good leadership and efforts in encouraging his team mates. Cadgey tried to rally people. In the backs we were hampered by slow ball and Yarnbury being both up very fast and offside all day, but they got away with it so fair play.
The 2nd half was a little better, Hairy coming out of retirement lifted the forwards and lovers got irritated enough to bosh it up to at least try and get over the gainline. Yarnbury had one daft player who was leading with his elbow and then clattering Cadgey from the side with the cheapest of cheap shots. He deservedly got 10 mins rest. Cadgey merely laughed it off.
Leos played a bit better but still conceded several tries through poor tackling. We did however score via a well organised catch and drive from a lineout. Captain Capell claiming the try.
The tone of the day was summed up in the final play when lovers playing at 10, threw a long loopy pass that was easily picked off by a yarnbury back who ran the length to score.
Final score Leos 5 Yarnbury 44.
Right enough politeness.
Personally your scribe is heartily fed up with the way the 2s and 3s are constantly turning up with less than 15 players, so boys you choose either you care about Leos or you don’t.
If you do make yourself available, get your mates down to play and we will continue to put 4 teams out.
If not ,very soon we will have little option but to put 3 stronger teams out with enough players.
Some of us are nearing the end of our rugby playing days and many more repeats of last sat will see some us choosing to do other things rather than get stuffed playing rugby.
So GET YOUR COLLECTIVE FINGERS OUT !
I cannot be any more direct.
