Return to winning ways as our muddy adventures continue

Leos 3s back to winning ways in Local derby.

Captain Chaos managed to field a squad of 17 to take on local rivals Roundhesians at the Crag last sat.

As he had been allegedly suffering from Swine Flu he chose to play on the wing, more of that later !

The early exchanges were fairly even with the Leos pack just shading the contact area and winning the scrum comfortably. Very early in the game the useful hesians 10 was sent off straight red card by Gabes for stamping on Niall. To be fair off the field he is a friendly chap but on it …

Leos definitely got the rub of the green decision wise for the first half which infuriated the visitors. Concerted pressure led to Poll steaming over from a tap penalty 10 yards out, Jason converted.

Hesians came back strongly and only good defence kept them out. Leos were hampered by desperately slow ball. Niall did his best at 9 but the men in green slowed it down well and their 9 harried all day.

Halftime arrived with Leos leading a tight contest 7 – 0.

The second half was a forward dominated effort with very little ball going into the backs hands. This has a curious effect in that we not only got cold and also a little bored, but some, Lovers being the prime example,e found it hard to get into the game. This resulted in a few tackles being missed and hesians eventually having more of the game. Captain Chaos did have one really impressive run where he beat several defenders showing good feet and a useful turn of pace. He counter balanced this good work by refusing to fall on the ball choosing to kick it sometimes backwards putting us in all sorts of trouble !

More forward pressure led to a bizarre try being scored by Tom Marshall. We drove a maul over the line everyone fell over, and the ball landed next to Tom who casually touched it down for a score ! all very laissez faire ! Con missed.

Hesians deservedly scored a try when Chaos again kicked a ball rather than fall on it, he missed they picked up and scored out wide. Con missed.
Jason at some point banged over a well taken penalty to make the score 15 – 5 to Leos.
Hesians had a man yellow carded for punching, got frustrated but kept trying hard.

Leos backs did have the odd run with a miss pass finding Welly who ran strongly. Dean on the wing also played well beating people for pace and putting in a delightful kick heaping pressure on hesians. Lovers most useful second half contribution was a well weighted kick out of defence that skipped off the turf into touch relieving some pressure.

But that was it really for the backs. The game was won by the Leos pack who dominated the scrum sending hesians backwards at a rate of knots. They also competed well in the lineout and the game ended with the score unchanged at 15 – 0 to Leos.

Next week a tough challenge against Selby who are always useful as the Leos 3s seek to end 2009 on a winning note.
