Poorly Morley come up shortly, put their 3rd XV out prematurely?

Morley turned up to Crag lane with a scratch team made up of players, friends, the opposition, spectators and passersby. With all Yorkshire clubs seemingly struggling for numbers, I’d like to give thanks to Ian and the other lads from Morley from everyone in Leos 3rds for still making the effort to turn out. It turned out to be a bit one sided but, at the end of the day, it allowed 30 lads to have a run around on a Saturday and a few beers with their pals and that is what social rugby is all about.

A mild thumb related injury for me means this is going to be a brief match report entitled “Things we got”. Luckily I am well practiced at one-handed typing.

Simon Burton continues to impress with his mazy runs from out wide and eye for a gap. He got 4 tries to his name and it is good to see some competition with Phil Parker for Top Tryscorer.

Niall got one. Dave Gauchi got one with an outrageous dummy. Gary Ambler got one (his first try in Leo’s colours), again with an outrageous dummy and some good footwork. Rob Shaw got one after a number of sniping runs from scrum half. Carl took forwards play to the wing and got one from a rolling maul (probably gets wiped from the stats as backs can’t score from mauls). A strangely familiar looking guest from Hackney RUFC got one in the first half before being conspicuously absent in the second. I got 2. Billy got a concussion. Tim Leslie got 4 conversions. Scotty got 3 conversions. Cadgey got a round of applause for slowly standing up. Si Haworth got one in the nads.

N.B. On 8th December the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds are playing Ripon away. All 3 teams are making the trip up to Ripon together via coach and doing a slow trip back stopping at various drinking establishments on the way. As some of the old heads know we in the social team have an annual “Fancy Dress Bus Trip” where we do something very similar. As such we have decided to merge the two events and take fancy dress to Ripon for the journey back. The theme is “Home-made Superheroes” so start thinking of your own character with absurd powers, abilities and, of course, attire. A few ideas for your heroes:

Carl Stephenson could go as “The Incredible Sulk”. Scotty could go as “The Everlasting Man”. Poll could go as “The Tesco Express”. Chris Macklin could go the arch villain known simply as the “Arse Doctor”. Billy could go as ... well as the saying goes ... Billy, don’t be a hero.
