Rowntrees had recruited some Selby mercenaries to make the trip and looked a little disorganised when Refjoy began proceedings.
For the first 20 minutes Leo’s played some well crafted rugby as the pack made the hard yards and the backs cut loose. Billy, Phil the Power and Tim B all weaved their mercurial backs moves as continual pressure was brought to bear on a Rowntrees defence that refused to melt. Eventually it was the pack who made their mark with a push over from a 5 metre scrum which CJ+ flopped onto. Scotty scuffed the extras, badly. Rob and Blakey stimulated the backs to attack the Rowntrees soft centres but once again they were repelled before Gareth drove himself over for a second try for Leo’s with a quarter of the game gone. Tim made a better effort of missing the extras. The home side now decided it was time to stylishly finish off the visitors and set about some over elaborate and less than clinical moves which saw opportunity after opportunity wasted before the visitors scored just before the break to keep things too close for comfort.
A stirring Cadgy call to arms was unheeded and apart from a driving maul which ended with Scotty held up over the line Leo’s concentrated their second half efforts on whinging, arguing with each other and generally not applying themselves to the task. Rowntrees drew level. Refjoy quite correctly began penalising the petulant chelping and sulking from the home side providing Rowntrees with a range of kickable and less kickable penalties, which they squandered. As Leo’s continued to not be bothered, whilst also losing danger men Billy and Tim B to injury the visitors sensed an upset and piled into attack and scored two tries to put the game out of reach for a disinterested home side.
