Games against Ossett are traditionally ferocious and this was no exception.

The visitors arrived with a mix of experienced and competitive forwards and a sprinkling of raw pace in the backs. CJ+ had gathered a squad of 19, including debutant Rob Byron, watched by his proud father on the touchline, resisting any attempts to resurrect his career. Ossett required a couple of guests so Wheels Hardman and Landlord Jim offered themselves for the first half.
The initial skirmishes were even as both packs battled for supremacy at the breakdown. Ossett were wily and obdurate while Leo’s looked to work their pick and drives to make yards. James Poll, CJ+ and George all drove in with various levels of success with clearing out completed by the supporting pack. The backs tended to run too fast early on, away from any possibility of support and too many chances went begging. Ossett infringing led to The Bishop bashing the ball deep into their territory where Dave H found Goff and a driving maul added impetus. Scotty just fell short off the back and the recycling provided the backs with the space for Phil to power over. The forwards kept up their hand to hand conflict with tenacious Ossett while the backs slowly started to make more impressive inroads as Phil, Nial and even All Clear Al added pace and yards. Further tries were scored, but only one converted as Leo’s took control of the scoreboard despite the competitive defence and spirit of Ossett.
Half time arrived and Leo’s swapped guests with Rob and Cadgey moving over. Leo’s assumed further ascendancy as Phil The Power took it upon himself to try to win the game on his own. Utilising the extra energy provided by his e-lites Phil racked up five tries in total and supplied supporting Landlord Jim with a deserved score for his scampertastic support running. Refjoy had his work cut out as the game became more fractious at the breakdown and the chelping levels increased. Ossett suffered a couple of injuries but Leo’s continued to offer up eveners. Eventually the card came out after Thommo had put in one of his trademark “steps” onto a prone Ossett forward. Scotty bravely stepped up to take on Cadgey in the front row thus avoiding uncontested scrums and the game continued at its frantic and brutal pace with the intensity of clearing out leaving many a Leo’s forward nursing aching ribs.. Ossett scored a worthy try, utilising pace out wide and could have had a couple more with a little more composure from their youthful backs. Phil ended the scoring and Scotty shanked the conversion wide, much to the delight of his team mates to bring the entertaining game to an end.
Next Saturday it is Ripon away, with the opportunity of a bus trip if there are enough interested. Early confirmations and passes to CJ+ please.
