As the Leo’s 4th XV squad dwindled towards single figures only the late debut additions of Ray Butler, (57) and Jake Matthews plus the welcome return of guesting Ossett player coach and ex Leo Tom Sprott allowed the gallant Leo’s to run out and suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. They did take arms against a sea of troubles, opposed them bravely, but were unable to end them. They bore the whips of their oppressor’s cruelty, but not the scorn. They neither died nor slept to end the heartache of a thousand natural shocks that their flesh was heir to but battled to a glorious defeat. (with acknowledgement to W Shakespeare)
Leo’s arrived with a mixed, pack focused 14
Yarnbury’s 2nd XV game was off so Leo’s faced a home team featuring 6 2nd teamers from the division above
Yarnbury lent us a lively back called Jack
The front five were peerless for the third week in a row, breaking the home side after 20 minutes and, for the second week running emasculating themselves in the process! Unopposed scrums again!
The backs, led by Lord Newns of Harewood worked hard against their superior opponents
Tom broke another Yarnbury player
JP damaged a third!
Josh injured his wrist
Yarnbury scored some tries
Leo’s battle bravely to avoid the first blank of the season with Tom held up an inch short
Robbo went off injured
Jake went off concussed
Yarnbury Mick came over to assist
The Yarnbury 2nd XV back line scored some more
John Parker was at his erratic refereeing best.
Bloody but unbowed Leos’ live to fight another day.
An old school 4th XV afternoon, short on numbers but not spirit, against a slightly devious home side, but fighting right to the end with pride in the shirt.
Please refer Mr P Chapman’s 3rd XV rant regarding player availability and commitment, tone it down for the delicate ears of Leo’s 4th XV, and give it some serious thought please, unless of course you were there!!!
