After some forceful opening exchanges the game was brought to an abrupt halt with a nasty ankle injury to Kinga. Play was held up for 25 minutes while an ambulance was called, a stretcher brought out and not used, an outbreak of queasy milling ensued, while the Ossett medic and The Fozeree tried to put Isaacs finger back in place to take his mind off the Eduardo style ankle. The finger is now reported as broken, along with the ankle!
Once the ambulance had left the field a competitive game of rugby ensued with the visitors slightly superior in most areas of the game. At the breakdown they were more organised and their backs had planned moves and also more pace than the Leo’s back line. An early score out wide was followed up with the exploitation of Leo’s disorganisation. Joe Coleman was off getting patched up, leaving a gap at 10 which was ruthlessly exposed for a score under the posts. Not too dispirited the home side got stuck in with some good carry-ups from Dog and Newsh, supported by both forwards and backs. The aging Bambi demonstrated his experience with both boot and hands whilst being dissed by his youngers! The visitors were eager in defence as The Fozeree kept a rather narrow offside corridor. Good work and quick recycling saw Newsh set up Stephan and Fedex delivered his first try for Leo’s, with his first touch!
Ossett scored again before the break and Leo’s reorganised themselves for the second half with a number of changes. The game continued to type with Ossett working some good moves, putting Leo’s under pressure in the scrums, and generally taking control. With Harry and Joe making the most of scant possession the Leo’s backs ran in hard with Ben, Kenroy and Dean failing to break through the strong tackling visitors until finally Dean managed to ghost through a rare gap and charge 50 yards for a try, before spoiling it with a shanked dropkick conversion attempt. Leo’s continued to compete and never threw in the towel but were undone once more by a slick backs more or two as Ossett ran out comfortable winners in the end.
